What Is a Disciple?

The word 'disciple' means 'student' or 'follower.' In Bible times, disciples didn't just sit in a classroom — they lived with their teacher, ate with them, worked alongside them, and learned everything from them. Being Jesus' disciple is the same: it's not just showing up at church on Sunday, it's following Jesus, learning from Jesus, and living like Jesus 24/7. Jesus said, 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me' (Luke 9:23). This means: putting Jesus first instead of your own desires; being willing to pay a price for your faith; growing and changing every day. Being a disciple isn't 'extra credit' — it's the basic identity of every Christian. You're not 'considering' whether to be a disciple; you've already been called to be one!
