All roads lead to Rome — don't all religions lead to the same place?
简答 Short Answer
It sounds tolerant on the surface, but religions give radically different answers to core questions. Saying they're all the same actually disrespects each one.
Detailed Answer
Religions give mutually contradictory answers to the most fundamental questions:
- God: Christianity says one personal Triune God; Islam says one Allah; Buddhism says no god or an impersonal ultimate; Hinduism says many gods or pantheism - Human problem: Christianity says sin; Buddhism says suffering and ignorance; Hinduism says illusion (maya) - Solution: Christianity says grace; Islam says submission; Buddhism says enlightenment; Hinduism says practice
These cannot all be right. Saying they 'all lead to the same place' either shows ignorance of their actual teachings or makes an even bigger religious claim — 'I know the ultimate truth about all religions' — which is itself a religious position.
True tolerance isn't saying 'you're all the same' but respecting differences while seeking truth.
