Why can't God just forgive sin directly? Why did Jesus have to die on the cross?
简答 Short Answer
Because God is both loving and just. Justice demands sin be judged; love demands sinners be saved. The cross is where God's justice and love perfectly meet.
Detailed Answer
If a judge let a defendant go free simply because he liked him, we wouldn't call that judge good — we'd call him corrupt. Similarly, if God overlooked sin, He would no longer be just.
God didn't face a simple choice. His nature demands sin be judged (justice) while He desires to save sinners (love). The cross is the only way to satisfy both: Jesus — the sinless Son of God — took upon Himself the judgment we deserved, so God's love could legitimately reach us.
This isn't an angry Father punishing an innocent Son. The Triune God — Father, Son, and Spirit — together ordained this plan of redemption. Jesus gave Himself willingly: 'No one takes my life from me; I lay it down of my own accord' (John 10:18).
